Tell me about yesterday and tomorrow! For a great environment in Kleve

Here it was, the first “Klima Café Kleve”, or, as Steph Rausch, who conceived the concept of the mobile “Klima Café”, smiles: “A trial “Klima Café”. Because the mobile “Klima Café” is actually still in the process of being conceptualised. Steph has found a partner in Haus Mifgash to help her realise the project with a great deal of commitment and enthusiasm. The entire team was all the more delighted to have the opportunity to host the Climate Café in the form of a storytelling café at DialogPunkt Kleve and to be able to present themselves at this central location in the city centre.

And so, on the afternoon of 19 June, visitors had the opportunity to talk about the environment in Kleve and the surrounding area while enjoying Fairtrade coffee and homemade cake. Here, too, one cannot equate climate with environmental climate. This became clear during the discussions, which also centred on the social climate in Kleve, Germany and Europe, for example. For the organisers of the Climate Café, a good environment is based on the three pillars of sustainability: ecology, economy and social issues.

Sharing experiences and ideas

The ties to the “Erzählcafé des Zukunftserinnerungszentrums NiederRheinLande” project were particularly noticeable at the Climate Café: the visitors became contemporary witnesses whose stories, dreams and wishes were collected at the Climate Café Kleve and documented in a memory log. A lively group of young and old shared personal climate stories and memories. On various maps of Kleve and the surrounding area, sustainability goals that are desirable for Kleve could be noted down or stops for the future mobile “Klima Café” could be suggested. The ideas expressed for a more sustainable future in Kleve included a citizens’ bus for Kleve, the creation of non-church meeting spaces without compulsory consumption and the provision of electric rickshaws. The latter could benefit both Kleve as a tourist destination and fellow citizens with limited mobility.
