Crafting for biodiversity

Our “Building nesting boxes for children” event at DialogPunkt Kleve was a complete success! We playfully introduced the children of the Montessori School to the importance of nature conservation. Under the expert guidance of Björn Mooren from the city of Kleve, children from the third and fourth grades learned how to build nesting boxes and why they are so important for the preservation of biodiversity.

Nesting boxes for biodiversity

Björn Mooren started the event with a child-friendly introduction to the topic. He explained how nesting boxes can help birds and other animals to find safe breeding grounds and thus contribute to the preservation of biodiversity. The children listened eagerly and were full of anticipation for the upcoming craft work.

Creativity and teamwork

The young conservationists set to work with great enthusiasm and creativity. Under the guidance of Mr. Mooren and supported by supervisors, the wooden boards were arranged, nails hammered in and the nesting boxes assembled. The children have the opportunity to let their imagination run wild when they lovingly paint and customize the nesting boxes at home.

Fun and learning

A cheerful and concentrated atmosphere prevailed throughout the event. The children not only had great fun, but also learned how important it is to protect and actively support nature. Working together also encouraged teamwork and manual skills.

Proud presentation

A special highlight was the final presentation of the finished nesting boxes. The children proudly showed off their works of art and were looking forward to hanging them up in their own gardens or in the school playground. Mr. Mooren summed it up at the end of the event: “Every self-built nesting box is a small home for nature. It’s the small deeds that can make a big difference. The future of our environment is in the hands of our children. By making them aware of the need to protect nature, we are laying the foundations for a sustainable future.”

The “Building nesting boxes for children” event was a wonderful example of how even the youngest children can be inspired about sustainability and nature conservation. We are delighted that so many children from Montessorie School took part and hope that the nesting boxes we built will soon be inhabited by many birds.
