Together for green energy: interdisciplinary project with Omexom

With the “H2-Power substituting diesel generator” project, the team “Hydrogen on the Lower Rhine Region” is using innovative technology to create an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional power generators. Find out how students and trainees are working together on this pioneering solution and shaping a sustainable future.

Students from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences (HSRW) came together with trainees and experts from Omexom GmbH on 19 April 2024 for a promising and innovative project: the development of an alternative power generator that uses hydrogen as an environmentally friendly alternative to diesel generators. The interdisciplinary student project “H2-Power hydrogen replaces diesel generator” was launched under the leadership of Prof Dr Irmgard Buder and Omed Abed. The project was officially launched on 3 April 2024 and aims to be completed by the end of the 2024 summer semester.

Partnership for a sustainable future

The meeting between students, trainees and experts was characterised by a constructive exchange and joint approaches to solutions. The HSRW students presented the solutions and system diagrams they had developed to the experts from Omexom in order to receive feedback and suggestions on technical feasibility. In the final open round, the further procedure for cooperation was discussed. A prototype, which is planned for 1 July 2024, will be presented at Omexom Smart Technologies GmbH in Uedem.

The planned future collaborations include student teaching events and reciprocal visits, during which experts and trainees provide practical feedback and facilitate technical implementation.

Hydrogen: green energy for tomorrow

As an environmentally friendly energy storage medium and substitute for fossil fuels, green hydrogen is increasingly being seen as a solution to the challenges of the energy transition. As part of our “Hydrogen on the Lower Rhine” transformation project and our cooperation with Omexom, we are committed to driving this forward in the Kleve region.

A look into the future

With the H2-Power project, Omexom and our “Hydrogen on the Lower Rhine Region” team are sending a strong signal in favour of a sustainable energy future. The collaboration between students and trainees promises not only technological innovation, but also an inspiring partnership between educational institutions and companies. Our team is eagerly awaiting the announcement of the Hochschulpreis (university prize) on 22 May 2024. In addition to the presentation of the prototype at Omexom, the awarding of this prize could be a further highlight for this forward-thinking project.
