Kick-off event: Macrophotography and biodiversity on the Lower Rhine
On 18 March 2024, TransRegINT and Naturschutzzentrum Kreis Kleve e.V. hosted an event entitled “Insects – Fascination and Protection”. Dr Werneke, Managing Director of Naturschutzzentrum Kreis Kleve e. V., gave the participants a deep insight into the world of insects and their importance for biodiversity.
Close-ups and the importance of insect diversity
During the presentation, the participants were transported into the miniature world of insects with the help of impressive close-up photos. Particular attention was paid to the importance of insect diversity, especially in our region on the Lower Rhine. Specific measures for the protection and promotion of insect diversity were presented and ways in which each individual can contribute to this were demonstrated. For your own garden, Dr Werneke recommended leaving a certain area, even if only a small strip or corner, to its own devices. Wildflowers, often frowned upon as weeds, not only attract insects, but also provide shelter and food for many other animals. Such areas are also suitable for insects to overwinter, provided that dead plants are allowed to remain over the winter.
Invitation to two further workshops
The lecture was the prelude to two exciting workshops at Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences on insects and macro photography, which will take place on 2 and 23 May 2024. Everyone is cordially invited to the workshops, especially photography enthusiasts and nature lovers. Participation is free of charge, but registration is required here.
