Happy faces and great results at the MakerLab

The students at the MakerLab were supported by Omed Abed from our ‘Hydrogen in the Lower Rhine’ transformation project and Prof Dr Irmgard Buder from the Faculty of Communication and Environment, who is providing technical support for the transformation project, as well as Prof Dr Karsten Nebe from the Faculty of Communication and Environment and Director of FabLab Kamp-Lintfort.

Makerthon ‘Inspire pupils for the energy transition in MakerLabs!’

The MakerLab is part of an interdisciplinary project in which Bachelor students from the Faculty of Communication and Environment participate during their studies. Students from different degree programmes come together to plan, organise and implement the MakerLab. This year’s project theme was ‘Inspire students for the energy transformation in MakerLabs!’, which translates as ‘Inspire students for the energy transformation in MakerLabs!’.

Introducing young people to technology through creative approaches

For one day on Saturday, 11 January, 55 young people had the opportunity to realise various projects in the FabLab on the Kamp-Lintfort campus using modern manufacturing technology and under the guidance of the students, professors and employees of the HSRW responsible for the MakerLab. Under the motto ‘Tinkering. Build. Do it yourself’, young people aged 11 to 15 were invited to bring their own ideas to life. What did they need? Creativity, curiosity and enthusiasm for technical topics. The results included solar projectors, origami bedside lamps, bristlebots – simple robots, also known as toothbrush robots, as they are made from a toothbrush – solar trackers and microbial fuel cells. ‘The MakerLab is a great example of how young people can be introduced to technology through creative approaches,’ said Prof Dr Irmgard Buder and Omed Abed, delighted with the results produced at the end of the day.
