Sharing resources smartly – shaping sustainability together
The Klever Birne sustainability award will be awarded for the third time in 2025. This year, the ideas competition is focussing on the sharing economy – sharing, swapping, borrowing, renting, donating and thus reusing resources.
The aim of the sustainability award initiated by the city of Kleve and our TransRegINT project is to find creative and sustainable solutions that motivate Kleve’s citizens to use resources sensibly and collectively. ‘Sharing not only means the conscious use of objects and spaces, but also strengthening social ties and reducing waste,’ explains Christina Martens, Coordinator of the Interaction Hub in the TransRegINT project and co-responsible for the implementation of the Klever Birne on behalf of the university. ‘We are convinced that the sharing economy contributes to social, ecological and economic sustainability.’
Start of the application phase
The application phase starts on 1 May 2025. Citizens, private groups, students, educational institutions, companies, associations, start-ups and institutions have until 30 June 2025 to apply. Possible topics include mobility, spaces and areas, objects and devices, as well as knowledge and skills. ‘Whether it’s innovative transport solutions, open workshops or neighbourhood swap meets, we’re looking forward to the ideas that will reach us and whose creators are keen to implement them,’ says Pascale van Koeverden, who is co-responsible for the sustainability award on behalf of the city of Kleve.
Successes from the previous year
Rethinking consumption

On Monday, 19 May 2025, together with the city of Kleve, we invite you to a DialogPunkt under the motto ‘Rethinking consumption’. Sharing initiatives will present themselves in the foyer of the Kleve town hall. “It is important to us to spread the topic of the sharing economy widely in Kleve. We are therefore pleased to be able to offer the DialogPunkt Kleve again, which was already open to Kleve residents last year with various offers,” says Christina Martens, giving an outlook on accompanying thematic events. Further information will follow shortly.
Now it’s time for all interested parties to get out their pens, sketch out their ideas and send in their applications. The competition proposals should be realisable in Kleve, follow the principle of the sharing economy and address at least one of the 17 sustainability goals. In addition to three prizes of €1,000 to €2,000, coaching and a certificate, there is also an audience award to be won.
