Kalkar Town Festival: Finally May

We joined forces with the Faculty of Technology and Bionics and local sustainability initiatives in Kalkar to offer a wide range of insights into the topic of sustainability under the slogan ‘Kalkar: Sustainably Connected’.

Alongside our hydrogen-powered excavator and a practical model demonstrating how a heat pump works, we also presented the new degree programme ‘Engineering for Sustainability’.

We were particularly happy to see the enthusiasm shown by various sustainable initiatives, groups and associations in Kalkar to showcase themselves at the town festival. Among those taking part were the Rhein-Ruhr Climate Agency, the Repair Café Beginenhof Kalkar, the Kalkar Citizens’ Solar Advisory Service, Kalkar Library, the Kleve District Nature Conservation Centre, the Friends of Kalkar Association and the Kalkar World Shop – fair-rhein.

From bee hotels and a book flea market to a beetle memory game and the Kalkar Climate Quiz, right through to the chance to use a microscope or have a quiet chat, there were plenty of opportunities to learn something new and be surprised. The engaging conversations and lively discussions confirmed just how important networking and collaboration are for sustainable regional development.

Many thanks to all those involved and to the visitors for their keen interest and the lovely conversations!
